Our first biomethane project in Slovakia is entering operation

The Ožďany plant is one of the first biomethane projects we have implemented in Slovakia, where we are involved through the supply of technology for injecting biomethane into the distribution network. Currently, we have a total of four biomethane units in Slovakia at various stages of development. The Ožďany project is the first of these to be already in operation and actively injecting biomethane into the grid. The commissioning of the remaining projects is planned within the next three months.

The project was prepared gradually in several phases. The investment plan originated in mid‑2023, and the selection of technology took place in 2024. The transport of the technology to the site was carried out in August 2025, and commissioning—including the injection of the first cubic meters of biomethane—was completed in January of this year.

From a technological perspective, the project is particularly specific due to the use of a propane enrichment system, which is not typically required for high‑pressure grids in the Czech Republic. A certain similarity can only be found at the Central Wastewater Treatment Plant in Prague, where this system is, however, operated at significantly lower pressures. The Ožďany project therefore provides valuable experience with operating propane enrichment under high‑pressure conditions.

Another challenge was the installation and commissioning of the technology itself, which took place during winter under temperatures dropping below −5 °C. Although the demanding climatic conditions were not ideal for installation work, the technology was successfully brought into operation. The implementation involved our technicians in cooperation with the upgrading partner EnviTec and the distribution company SPP – distribúcia, a.s.

The investor independently procured both the biogas upgrading technology and the biomethane injection equipment. Our scope of supply included the injection technology, specifically the unit for measuring and analyzing biomethane quality. Another specific feature of this project is that it was not implemented by a single general contractor but rather on the basis of partial cooperation among multiple technology suppliers.

The Ožďany project is an important step in the development of biomethane in Slovakia and at the same time represents a significant milestone in our activities on the Slovak biomethane market.
