Five HUTIRA mobile water treatment plants head to Ukraine
At the beginning of the year, we informed you about a project to supply mobile water treatment plants to war‑affected areas in eastern Ukraine. Today, we are following up with good news – all five units have been manufactured, tested, and are now on their way to their future deployment.
The mobile water treatment plants were designed and manufactured at our facilities in Popůvky and Svatobořice‑Mistřín. Each unit is installed on a trailer and uses reverse osmosis technology with a capacity of 0.5 m³/h, allowing for flexible deployment directly in the field wherever stable infrastructure is lacking.
The units are heading to the Donetsk region, where access to drinking water has long been one of the greatest challenges. The recipient of the technology is Caritas Mariupol, which will ensure their deployment in the areas with the greatest need.
How a mobile water treatment plant works
Mobile water treatment plants are designed to treat water from underground sources. The entire process consists of a two-stage treatment, involving pre-filtration using pressure filters followed by final purification through reverse osmosis. The treatment takes place in several consecutive steps:
- Coarse filtration -removes mechanical impurities
- Iron and manganese removal – special filter media reduce elements commonly present in local water sources
- Activated carbon filtration – captures organic substances, odors, and residual chlorine
- Reverse osmosis (main treatment stage) – removes nitrates, heavy metals, salts, and other dissolved contaminants from the water
- Chemical pre-treatment and stabilization – automatic dosing ensures proper treatment processes and the resulting water quality
The result is safe drinking water that meets the required quality standards for potable water.
Technical solution and operation
The technology is designed as a compact mobile solution with an emphasis on reliable operation in demanding conditions:
- Capacity per unit: up to 0.5 m³/h (approx. 500 litres per hour)
- Design: mobile treatment unit on a trailer
- Operation: designed for continuous operation in the field
- Quality assurance: each unit undergoes thorough testing and verification of operational parameters
This project builds on our previous support for Ukraine — whether it was the donation of a mobile water treatment unit in 2022 or the supply of water infrastructure materials in 2024. The current delivery of five new units represents another concrete step in helping to secure a basic need: access to safe and reliable drinking water, even under the conditions of an ongoing conflict.
